Modern art is a type of art that really is any type of art that has been around since the late 19th century. This type of art usually refers to art that is also before 1970. Today’s styles of art are often called contemporary art or even postmodern art. During this very unique time in the history of art, there was a foundation of abstract art work. In most cases before this time, the fundamental objects within the pieces of art were somewhat normal looking. In other words, a vase looked like a vase. But, during this time period, things within the art world changed.
Before this time, many artists developed paintings that were true representations of lifelike images. This was done as a way of preserving the image for a long time. But, then there was the camera and the invention of photography that made this type of art no longer in demand. So, artists did what they do best and began to create art that was much more unique and offered a wide range of ideas and thoughts to come through to it.
Modern art was a true form of expression that came through in the art that was designed and created in some of the most unusual of ways. It is said that this style of art happened first in the western countries and then later moved throughout the world. It started in its most basic form which is that of painting and printmaking. It did not take long for it to further develop into that which would includes architecture as well as sculpture.
There are many stages that encompass the modern art feel. These included such things as impressionism, expressionism, and romanticism, realism and symbolism. There are many more movements that would encourage art to become even more specific to the styles of the time. In romanticism, you will find Francisco de Goya. In Realism, you will find Gustave Courbet. The famous Claude Monet was an Impressionist. Degas and Manet also would join him here. Van Gogh was also a modern artist.
